Ayahuasca Spiritual ActivatorEarly last month a friend mentioned she was going to participate in her second Ayahuasca ceremony—which made my ears perk up. I had no idea what an Ayahuasca ceremony is like, only that it involves some kind of herbal drink that makes some people throw up and the night before, one could do a Native American sweat lodge ceremony as part of the experience. Since this friend is a seeker, always searching for healing and greater spiritual awareness (and is grounded in her job as the CFO / CPA of a small company), I was all in.

The other thing I knew about Ayahuasca is what my 21-year-old daughter told me when I said I was going to an Ayahuasca ceremony—Chelsea Handler has done it. (Chelsea Handler, I found out, is a hilarious TV talk show host.)

After registering I received instructions for how to prepare for the ceremony. This included eating cleanly and lightly at least the three days before the ceremony, staying away from violent movies and images, and a few other precautions, such as avoiding alcohol and prescription medications. On the day of the sweat lodge, only fresh fruits were recommended. No problemo, amigo; it’ll be a piece of cake, I thought to myself.

We packed camping equipment such as chairs, sleeping mats, blankets, and coolers with fresh fruit and plenty of water. At the ceremony site, we set up our tent and helped others with their tents. The people arriving for the event were open and friendly and ranged in age from their early 20s through their late 60s.

We were instructed to come to the event with an intention. I wrote my intention on the drive over: to gain momentum with my higher purpose and life.

The Sweat Lodge Ceremony

In the evening a fire was started in the fire pit and rocks were being heated. The rocks would go into the blanket-covered half-dome structure that would serve as the sweat lodge after dusk.

Crawling in one by one, we sat on the ground along the perimeter of the sweat lodge. Hot rocks were brought in, along with a pail of water. Every 15 minutes or so, new freshly glowing rocks from the fire outside …

The two leaders drummed and chanted Native American songs and prayers. We endured the heat and steam for an hour in complete darkness. My long cotton dress got saturated with sweat. The intent was to cleanse ourselves of toxins and prepare for the Ayahuasca the next morning. I enjoyed the sweat lodge and only got slightly uncomfortable the last 10 minutes or so.

The next morning, I had tea and a couple pieces of fruit. We took down our tents and packed them into our vehicles. The ceremony would begin around 9 a.m.

Ayahuasca—the Most Spiritual of all Herbal Substances?

About 50 people gathered with yoga or sleeping mats, blankets and bottles of water. The ceremony area had already been prepared: tarps had been laid on the ground, then utility blankets on top of them. Beautiful art blankets hung from clotheslines attached to trees.

I heard that we’d be on the tarp area for six hours. Although I knew the ceremony included the ingesting of an herbal medicine that alters your consciousness, I had no idea what we’d be doing for six whole hours. Chanting? Drumming? Prayer, Indian style? Role playing? I had no reference for what was to come.

Two leaders, a male and a female, and about a dozen volunteers helped with the process. We received the Ayahuasca medicine in small paper cups. It looked and tasted something like an herbal / mushroom expresso. Most people swallowed it in one gulp. I took four sips and got it all down. It didn’t taste bad.

The sun shone through the canopy of trees. Music came on via an audio system. I lay back on my mat to relax and take it all in. There was a bucket by each person’s side, just in case we needed to puke.

After about 20 minutes or so, I felt the herbal medicine begin its work. One of the first things I felt was a warm glow beginning in the center of my body near my rib cage (where the soul seed is). This feeling reassured me. Then I felt things shifting in my body, as if channels were opening inside my body and brain. I felt something shift inside and voilà—the sky instantly got brighter and the leaves on the trees became radiant with energy.

Within an hour I was fully in the process. I had my eyes open pretty much the whole time. I told myself I was going to be conscious throughout the process.

It’s hard to describe in words what I experienced, but it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I saw, among the canopy of trees, what I can only describe as the Interconnectedness of all life. I saw the web of life.

I Saw the Interconnectedness

If you’ve read my memoir on intuition and awakening, you might remember that the Counsel of Light had told me that the Interconnectedness was real. And you might remember that I had experienced glimpses of it when I followed my inner guidance and amazing synchronicities occurred. But now I could actually see it. I mean I could actually see the Interconnectedness; I could see the web of life and it was so beautiful. It was as if the tree spirits and all of nature were saying to me, we’re here; we’re here for you; we support you. Can you see it? Can you see the bigger picture and how we’re here supporting you?

I sat up and looked at the people all around me. They all appeared completely normal, no distortion there whatsoever. But just beyond them the trees became animated and the leaves dazzled and danced. It was a most interesting visual experience.

My Ayahuasca experience affirmed and confirmed my larger mission to help people strengthen their relationship with their higher self. The day I’m writing this, less than a week later, I feel my intention of moving forward with momentum in this mission is being supported. I feel stronger and I’m moving forward faster.

I did not throw up. Sometimes a few tears came as I witnessed the beauty of nature, the beauty of the experience, the beauty of humanity’s journey. I did not experience anything dark or negative.

Ayahuasca also Releases Toxins

Most people threw up, but not everyone. Throwing up helped release toxins, both the physical as well as the emotional kind. I suspect what came up for people were the things that were blocking them from feeling better in life, the things that were blocking their spiritual awakening and personal growth. With the help of the Ayahuasca, they could now see things with clear vision and process what there was to process. And once they threw up, they felt a lot better immediately.

I can understand why people call Ayahuasca the most spiritual of all herbal substances. Whatever is there for you, you’ll see it with more clarity. Sometimes you won’t like what you see, but you won’t escape what’s there. After all that puking, people felt and looked transformed.

Ayahuasca is like the proverbial red pill. You only need one experience like this and your perspective changes forever. And afterwards, you can’t help but want to have a steady connection with the Interconnectedness. You can’t help but want that kind of clarity. You can’t help but want to continue to strengthen the relationship with your higher self and feel the Interconnectedness working with you daily. And I suspect, strange and wonderful things are bound to happen in your life from then on that no one can predict.

Your Higher SelfThere are many good reasons to connect with, and strengthen your relationship with, your higher self. As you’re probably aware, your higher self is also known as your soul, your true self, your authentic self, your inner being, and your access point to God, Spirit, Infinity, the Divine. The top ten reasons to connect with your higher self, in no particular order of importance, are listed below.

1. To discover your higher life purpose.

Everyone has a higher life purpose that we are to fulfill during this time of rapid spiritual awakening and transformation. The way you discover your higher purpose is by developing a deeper, clearer and stronger relationship with your higher self. The “map” or “blueprint” to your higher life purpose is within you and your higher self will guide you on whatever your next step is.

2. To rev up your intuition.

Nothing increases your intuition better than connecting with and paying attention to your higher self. Your higher self will help guide you on your daily path, and you’ll experience more favorable synchronicities. This means whatever you need so that you can fulfill the next step of your higher life purpose will show up for you.

Want to gain confidence in your intuition? Cultivate a strong relationship with your higher self. Want to activate your spiritual awakening? Cultivate a strong relationship with your higher self. Want to see glimpses of your higher life purpose? Cultivate a strong relationship with your higher self. Want to gain confidence in yourself? … You get the picture.

3. To gain access to your wisdom from all time.

Your soul is infinite–meaning it’s been around forever. You’ve probably had many, many lifetimes. You can gain access to that wisdom you’ve acquired by reconnecting within and paying attention to that inner part of you.

When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll begin to receive in the present moment the wisdom from all your past lives, all aspects of yourself, and your innate wisdom will become increasingly available to you now.

4. To clear your karma and make sense of your life and “soul contracts” with others.

When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll begin to understand your life and your soul agreements with others from the perspective of the higher self–which will heal and transform your life. You will then be truly, authentically grateful for having gone through your process (your life path and how it helped you grow). Almost nothing feels better than gratitude when it’s authentic.

5. To restore inner balance, wholeness and peace.

Your soul is the place from where you restore right- and left-brain balance and wholeness (“lower level” human consciousness comes together with “higher level” or “divine” consciousness). After you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll also notice the constant chattering in your head will diminish greatly (if not completely) and the battles that sometimes occur in your mind will diminish.

6. To finally realize your potential.

The energy of your soul is the energy of your potential. (Your potential includes your innate wisdom, and your unique gifts and abilities.)  When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll create a life that you’ll actually love to live.

7. To access Interconnectedness and all its gifts.

When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll connect with Interconnectedness and receive its gifts. This means you’ll experience more flow in your life, more favorable and amazing synchronicities, a sense of perfect timing, greater cooperation with the people in your life, as well as new insights that help increase your understanding of life. These are considered the gifts of Interconnectedness. And when you benefit, so will everyone and everything else around you–as everyone and everything is connected to you through the Interconnectedness.

8. To jump start your spiritual awakening and “Ascension process”

When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll raise your awareness, awaken spiritually, and expand (“ascend”) your consciousness.  In fact, you’ll begin to see the world from a higher perspective, as if you had the perspective of God. After all, your higher self is a fragment of God.

When you begin to see the world from this higher perspective, your behaviors and habits will change, even those habits you’ve had a hard time changing up until that point.

9. To work with more than just your will alone.

When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll be working with more than just your will alone. You’ll have the support of Divine will. Which means that miracles and magic will occur that aren’t possible through your will alone.

Your higher self has access to the larger Divine Plan. By fulfilling your role in the Divine Plan (by fulfilling your higher life purpose), you’ll help bring about the Golden Age for humanity.

10. To finally experience true happiness.

It’s true. When you strengthen your relationship with your higher self, you’ll finally experience true happiness. And that’s because your higher self will be getting expressed in the world. (If your soul doesn’t get expressed in the world, you won’t experience much happiness.)

Plus, when you begin to understand what’s really going on here on Earth, the higher perspective of what’s going on, God’s view, that alone will bring you tons of joy.

So these are the top 10 reasons why it’s worth your while to strengthen your relationship with your higher self.

Intuition and SafetyCan your intuition and connection with your higher self help keep you and your children safe? I believe the answer is a resounding yes, and I’m writing this article in response to MaryEllen Tribby’s heartfelt post about the three dreadful events that happened in Orlando mid-June, particularly the tragic death of two-year-old Lane Graves.

In her article titled, “Stop the Blaming and Shaming: Overcoming Tragedies Together,” MaryEllen Tribby’s focus was on the two-year-old boy who was attacked and killed by an alligator at one of Disney’s finest hotels and how his parents must now feel. Especially with so many, through social media, blaming and shaming the parents for their son’s tragic loss.

Being the parent of three children herself, MaryEllen recounts how she was lucky there were no cars driving by when her two-year-old girl darted into the parking lot while she was grabbing her briefcase from the front seat of her car. Or the time her toddler son smacked face-first onto the parking lot from her SUV, as she moved away the shopping cart.

MaryEllen writes that children do not come with an owner’s manual and we cannot hold them in our laps until they’re 18. She’s grateful her own split-second mistakes did not result in tragedy. Which is why, she says, instead of blaming and shaming the parents who have suffered the loss of their children, let’s offer them love and support.

But There’s Something More Parents Can Do

I agree with MaryEllen. But I also want to add there is something more we as parents can do to help keep our children safe: We can strengthen the relationship with our higher self (our soul—which is our connection with the Universe, Everything There Is, God) and follow our intuition, promptly and consistently. We actually can use the innate power within us that hardly anyone knows about … least of all, how to develop it.

I have two children of my own, an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old, and I’ll share some examples where my intuition helped keep my children safe.

Three Real-Life Examples …

When my younger daughter Julianne was between three and four months old, I placed her in one of those bouncy seats and put her on the broad kitchen counter while I unloaded the dishwasher one morning. Bouncy seats are designed for babies between three and six months old, and she lay back, playing with the spinning toys attached to the bouncy seat.

I was putting food containers away when I heard a strange noise, like the sound you’d expect a baby to make if she were in a roller coaster and her stomach dropped. I spun around instantly and caught her and the bouncy seat in my arms. She had bounced off the top rack of the dishwasher, straight into my arms.

I can’t even begin to imagine what would have happened had I not turned around in time. I heard some babies have died when dropped from several feet. (Note to parents and grandparents: Never ever put your baby in a bouncy seat on an elevated surface.)

Another time when Julianne was two, she, her sister Angelika and I went out the back gate of our house to the association pool. Angelika and I were loaded down with towels, swim noodles and other gear, allowing Julianne to slip away and get to the pool first. By the time I got there, less than 10 seconds later, she was nowhere to be seen.

First I did a quick scan of the pool but didn’t see her. I called her name “Julianne, Julianne!” and did a 360º around the landscaped area but didn’t see her there, either. Then I stood silent by the pool and became aware of a chill creeping down my spine. The next thing I “heard” in my head was, “eagle eye, pretend you have the vision of an eagle.” I scanned the pool again carefully and this time, saw a little hand coming out of the pool on the far, deep end. I rushed over and grabbed her hand and she was fine.

The third example is more recent, when Julianne was 14. It was early in her freshman high school year, a Friday night, and she was sleeping over at a girlfriend’s house. I kept in texting contact with her—until around 10:30 pm when she stopped texting back. Feeling something wasn’t right about our conversation, I went out to go look for her. But neither she nor her friend were at the friend’s house. And neither did they answer their phones. I called my older daughter Angelika (who was 17 then) and told her to help find her sister.

Then the friend’s parent and I walked down the street to a third girl’s house where they were all supposed to be—at least that’s what he was told. But they weren’t there, either. And as we walked back I got an alert that someone on my cell phone plan had just called 911.

I called Julianne’s friend, who answered because she didn’t recognize my number. After some discussion, we got the address of the party they attended a few blocks away. By the time we got there, several police cars lined the street and 20 to 30 teenagers sat on the curb, awaiting their parents’ arrival.

I called Angelika, who told me she had Julianne with her. It turned out someone at the party had already texted Angelika to come get her sister as she had a few beers and was puking in the bathtub. Angelika found out the party was given by a 17-year-old boy whose parents were away for the weekend. Then as she helped Julianne to the car she thought to herself, This is wrong. That’s when she called the police.

What To Pay Attention To

As a parent, you must be vigilant and act promptly when you hear odd, unexpected noises, receive intuitive thoughts or impressions, or get the subtle feeling that something isn’t right.

It’s also important to teach your children to listen to their intuition. Every time they ignore their intuition they weaken their relationship with their higher self, put themselves at risk, and even give up their power. Preteen and teenage girls in particular experience this.

Teach Your Teen, Too.

Teach your teen to pay attention to that little feeling in the pit of her stomach or that quiet, still voice that says, “Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this” when someone tries to talk her into doing something not in her best interest. Girls give up their power to boys all the time and regret it later. And when they ignore their intuition, they diminish their relationship with their higher self and their innate power.

It’s clear to me that listening to your intuition will help keep your children safe. In fact, when I was writing my first book, and in constant intuitive flow, I received the strong impression that strengthening the relationship with our higher self absolutely helps to keep us and our children safe.

Besides, God, the Divine, has another motive. When you’re following your inner guidance you’re helping to create a new world, a world that works for everyone (well, that is the Divine Plan …). Which means your spirit guides will want to keep you around so that you can actually fulfill that mission!

To strengthen the relationship with your higher self, follow the steps in the Quick Start Guide available on this blog. And if you have a story to share, an example of when you followed your intuition and it helped keep you or your child safe, please share it in the comment section below. Thank you!

Pope Francis Year of MercyAt the Catholic funeral mass at my Mom’s funeral a week and a half ago, I picked up the Polish-English Catholic prayer book and read an excerpt from the back cover that was written by Pope Francis last year. Pope Francis describes the current year of December 8, 2015 through November 20, 2016 as the “Jubilee Year of Mercy:”

‘The Jubilee year will close with the liturgical Solemnity of Christ the King on 20 November 2016. On that day … we shall be filled, above all, with a sense of gratitude and thanksgiving … for having granted us an extraordinary time of grace… How much I desire that the year to come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!”-Pope Francis, “Misericordiae Vultus” (“The Face of Mercy”)

Indeed, I’ve been writing for a while now that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst, and I will explain what I mean by that. I’ll also explain why an awakened heart is required to truly get this, as well as what is required for one to awaken, as certainly from the surface level of consciousness and existence the world doesn’t look all that heavenly at the moment. In fact, from the surface level perspective, many would argue that the Kingdom of God is far from here, and many are still waiting for the rapture, or for “the end of the world when all souls shall rise from the dead,” or for some other transcendental, ethereal state to arrive through some sort of divine intervention.

But listen up. The only divine intervention that will occur here is the one that happens when you cultivate a strong relationship with your higher self and follow through with your soul’s guidance, your inner guidance, promptly and consistently-which is what Christ had done. This is also what is required in order for you to awaken and it’s how you access the Kingdom of God (both the inner and the outer Kingdoms).

Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ accomplished the mission he had set for himself. He was able to accomplish his mission by cultivating a strong connection with his Higher Self (his connection with God, to the “Father”), conducting his life in such a way that his Higher Self was in the “driver’s seat,” and following through with his inner guidance promptly and consistently.

The Scriptures contain many examples of Christ connecting to spirit and then following through with his higher guidance. In fact, one time Christ spent 40 days alone, in the desert, so he could connect within and be with his “Father,” before gaining the clarity and strength needed to go on with the rest of his life’s work.

Yes, Jesus had a choice back then (well, sort of …). He could have simply gone along with the establishment and not made any waves. But he chose to spend 40 days in “the desert,” in meditation and communion with spirit. Then he chose to go through with where his guidance was taking him.

Why? Because the world was full of ignorance and the people-whom he loved with all his heart and soul-suffered greatly because of this ignorance. (Yep, there wasn’t much of a choice there for him at all … )

And after that, the world was never again the same.

Now, two thousand years later, it’s our turn to cultivate a strong relationship with our higher self (our connection with God, with the “Father”), conduct our lives in such a way such that our higher self is in the driver’s seat, and follow through with our inner guidance (the promptings of our higher self, of our spirit) promptly and consistently, too.

In other words, it’s time for us to fulfill Christ’s legacy.

Some would argue that this is impossible, because we live on a planet of spiritual teenagers. But the truth is, following Christ’s example is how spiritual teenagers transform themselves into spiritual adults.

They do this by first cultivating a strong relationship with their higher self, and then they conduct their lives in such a way so that their higher self (their authentic self, their soul) is in the “driver’s seat.” Of course, part of this process includes following through with their inner guidance promptly and consistently, just as Jesus Christ had done.

Following Christ’s example and perhaps attending a youth ministry program could be one way to transform ourselves from spiritual teenagers into spiritual adults. Following Christ’s example is how we “return to God.” It’s how we gain access to God’s grace. (The “mercy” Pope Francis refers to again and again.) And following Christ’s example is how we’ll resolve the many issues of this planet, and it is how Christ’s vision for a Heaven on Earth (the outer Kingdom of God), will finally be made manifest. Because Heaven on Earth can’t exist on a planet full of spiritual teenagers.

How many spiritual teenagers are still waiting for Christ to return to Earth in the flesh, to take those who believe in him (and in his connection to God) up into Heaven with him? How many believers are still waiting to be swooped up and taken up into “Heaven” simply because of their belief in Christ’s connection to God, or their belief in his divinity, or their recitation of specific prayers? How long will they continue to wait, while ignoring Christ’s example and teachings? How long will they choose to remain ignorant?

I assert that Jesus Christ has already accomplished his mission, his work is already done, and in order for you to see this (including seeing that the Kingdom of God is already present in your midst) you must simply follow in Christ’s footsteps and actually strengthen the relationship with your Higher Self, with your own heart and soul-your direct connection with God. Because let’s face it, there are some things you get only through action and firsthand experience, not through recitation of doctrine, theorization, belief, cogitation, book learning-as Christ’s own disciples had eventually come to realize. This is one of them.

Prince's Power

Noah St. John, author of the Book of Afformations, recently wrote about Prince’s belief in himself and in his vision: Prince’s belief in himself was so strong that he signed a recording contract at the age of 19.  Then he fought for—and got—total creative control over his first three albums. (Which is kind of unheard of in the record industry.)

Noah writes about Prince’s belief in himself, “I believe in myself and understand my vision better than any of you do. So I’m going to do things the way I want to do them.”

Then Noah asked his community, What about you? Do you believe in yourself? Have you stood up for your vision?

In this article, I’m sharing an example of how signs from the Universe helped me stand up for my vision, and how you can harness the power of Prince for your vision, too.

So, early in 2007, I hired a top-rate editor in the spiritual niche to edit a book I was writing. Although she was tops in her field and I was open to her input, I knew my book needed a “light” editing—meaning language and grammar and tense—rather than content editing. I was confident my book was a memoir of my spiritual reconnecting process as the Universe had supported the writing of each page. What I mean is that crazy amazing, favorable synchronicities happened almost daily that became content for my book, once I had tapped into the reconnecting / creative process. It’s how my book got written.

(Read on, a sample of one of those amazing synchronicities is coming up shortly …)

My editor recommended I write a “how-to” book instead, rather than a memoir of my process. After all, she explained, you’re an unknown. (So was Prince, by the way, before his albums went platinum.)

We exchanged a few email conversations and I finally convinced her I needed to do it my way. This was a book on intuition; I had tapped into intuitive flow; it only made sense to honor my intuition, my higher self’s guidance, I had explained. It’s how my book got written. She finally agreed.

But then, rather than honoring her word to edit my manuscript as we had agreed, she spent hours rewriting it. She deleted my wonderful, true-life examples and repeated a bland, Buddhist-inspired message over and over again that I wasn’t even in agreement with—exactly what I asked her not to do. Then she sent me a big fat invoice.

Well, since she hadn’t honored her agreement, I could only use maybe half of her work. I sent her a letter explaining the issues, including references to our previous emails, and paid her slightly more than half of the invoice. I thought I was both generous and fair.

Adamant that I pay every penny, she threatened legal action against me. But I chose to stick to my convictions. I knew I was in the right.

Two months later, I received a letter from a collection agency. Further research on standard industry practices confirmed I had a decent case. I wrote the agency a letter explaining the matter.

Then she wrote the agency, stating that in her 38 years of service, nobody had ever taken issue with any of her invoices, or advice.

I wrote another letter in rebuttal, thinking that would be the end of that.

But the case wasn’t closed. About a month later, at the end of June 2007, I received a letter from a law firm in San Francisco. Too upset to even look at what was inside, I shoved it unopened in between the seats of my car.

But then a few days later, while working on polishing my manuscript and listening to music over the radio online, I got an intuitive message to go get the letter out of my car. (I usually didn’t listen to the radio while writing as it’s distracting, but I was “inspired” to do so that day. Just following my intuition, I was …)

Walking back from my car with the dreaded letter in hand, I was informed that if the balance of the editor’s bill wasn’t paid immediately, a lawsuit would be filed against me. Furthermore, additional amounts would be owed in the event of litigation.

I have never been sued before, so this was disturbing and upsetting. Furthermore, I was now risking lawyers’ fees in addition to the original balance, and I only had a small sum of money to launch my book project.

I trudged back into my house disheartened, heading towards my bedroom, back to my computer, my spirits crushed. Nobody believed in me. And not only did my editor not believe in me, she was now going to sue me …

But as I walked into my bedroom, the first words I heard were: She a-howlin’ about the front rent, she’ll be lucky to get any back rent, she ain’t gonna get none of it!–of course sung by “Bad to the Bone” George Thorogood.

I knew this was a sign from the Universe as these sorts of things happened to me almost daily, sometimes several times a day, when I was writing my book!

I felt inspired immediately and wrote a letter to the law office explaining exactly why I wouldn’t be paying the balance. And I’m telling you, I haven’t heard from the lawyers or the editor since.

I self-published my book so I could have it the way I wanted it, the way the Universe was showing me to do it, and later it was recognized by conventional publisher North Atlantic Books as one of four “notable spiritual awakening memoirs” of the last several years, along with Eat Pray Love, The Happiness Project, and Star Sister.

Now … what about you? Do you have a vision for your life, a vision that comes from your heart and soul, but not a whole lot of support from the people around you? I’m here to tell you that when you reconnect with your higher self and follow your inner guidance, the Universe itself will show you it supports you. Your stronger relationship with your higher self will empower you and charge you up with the power of Prince. And that’s because the Universe supports the dreams that arise from your soul.

Do you want support for your vision from the Universe? Get my free spiritual awakening Quick Start Guide and follow the simple instructions. It’s time you manifest YOUR vision in the world.

connect with your higher selfLast weekend, at a New Living Expo expert panel discussion on cultivating conscious awareness, a gentleman in the audience asked, how do you connect to your higher self?

From the responses of the panelists, it’s obvious to me that when it comes to understanding the higher self and what it means to connect to one’s higher self,  we’re still really not all that advanced. I’ll explain why.

First, let’s examine the question asked by the gentleman in the audience: “Can you tell me how we can connect to our higher self?”

Well, the truth is, you’re already connected to your higher self. If you weren’t, you’d be dead.

So the real question he asked goes beyond simply being connected to his higher self, because he already is connected.

So why do you suppose he asked that question?

Most likely, the real reason he wants to connect to his higher self is that his life isn’t working all that well. Maybe he’s experiencing challenges in his personal relationships, or at his job, or maybe his life isn’t as fulfilling as he’d like it to be.  Maybe he’s looking at the state of the world (and the state of his world) and it depresses him. Maybe his relationship with himself isn’t all that hot, either, and his hope is that by connecting with his higher self, he’ll receive the insight and the guidance that’ll begin to turn things around for him. (Why else do people want to connect to their higher selves, anyway?)

So the question the man asked the panel isn’t really about how he can connect to his higher self, is it? No. The real question is, how does he connect to his higher self so that he feels connected and he experiences being connected and his higher self guides him in his life daily and he experiences the manifestation of this higher power / higher consciousness in his life daily and his life gets transformed as a result of this connection.

So the real question is: how does he strengthen the relationship he has with his higher self so that it becomes as real to him as any of his other relationships?

The panelists responded to his question, “How do you connect to your higher self?” but I can’t see how the answers they gave him could have helped him all that much: Go within, was one answer. Get into a state of deep consciousness.

It has to do with sound frequencies, was another answer.

Tune your antennae, was another answer.

You have a connection between your heart and your brain. The heart helps you access it, was another response.

You access it with your emotional state, yet another response.

(Answers we’ve all heard a million times before–which means they’re not all that effective at actually helping you gain access to that higher consciousness.)

I think we all can agree that it takes more than just meditation or tuning into special sound frequencies to effect life transformation.

True, it does begin with having a certain level of awareness and yes, you do want to have an effective meditation that connects the heart with the soul (your current life with your infinite life, respectively), and yes, there are important steps you take after that. Such as, paying attention to a certain area in your body (your “sacred space”) and following through with your inner guidance promptly and consistently.

And there’s more you you should be aware of. For example, how are you going to gain the courage to follow through with your intuition promptly and consistently if your inner guidance doesn’t make logical sense to you? Or if it’s inconvenient for you to do so? Or if you don’t know what’s possible when one follows through with one’s intuition as you don’t have a whole lot of real-life examples of this and all of this is new to you?

Or what if you don’t even recognize your inner guidance, or can’t distinguish it from your mental conditionings or fears? (Most people have ignored their inner guidance / intuition for so long that the connection is very weak.)

The truth is, every time you ignore your intuition you weaken your relationship with your higher self, give up your power, and possibly, place yourself in some kind of trouble. (This is probably what prompted that gentleman to ask his question.)

Don’t do that. Get my free Quick Start Guide (the opt-in box is located near the top of the right-hand column) and begin the journey that revs up your intuition, gives you back your power, and transforms your life.

At an event I attended last month (March 2016), I heard Dr. Sean Stephenson share an incredible story about what happened when he followed an intuitive urge he thought was—to say the least—strange.

You might have heard of Sean before. He’s the three-foot tall motivational speaker / psychotherapist who’s been on TED talks and TV and who gets around in a wheel chair.

Born with a rare brittle bone disorder, doctors didn’t expect him to live more than 24 hours. His leg bones are so fragile they don’t support his weight. Just sneezing can fracture his ribs.

But Sean not only proved the doctors wrong, he became a motivational speaker at the young age of 17. He even got his PhD so that he could better help those people who, after his talks, approached him for advice on personal issues. These days, he also coaches public speakers. And this is where Sean’s amazing story begins …

So it’s near the end of January (2016) and Sean is staying at a hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona. He and his group of five or six mastermind clients (who are working together for one year, paying Sean a handsome fee of $40,000 for the privilege) are meeting the next morning for an intense workshop on public speaking. One of the members of the group can’t be present as he’s having open-heart surgery where he lives in Long Beach, California.

At four in the morning at the hotel, Sean awakens to the voice of his intuition telling him to change the day’s agenda. Instead of working in a hotel room as usual, he is to gather the group together and drive the seven hours to visit with the one member who’s about to have heart surgery.

Yes, he heard that right. Drive to Long Beach, visit with their friend for a few minutes, hug him, wish him well. Then drive seven hours back to Scottsdale.

Sean’s thinking, what? No way! That’s just wonky! (His words.)

But the inner voice persists and won’t let him sleep. In the morning, Sean decides to enroll his group in the new plan. But how will he enroll them?

By asking a loaded question, of course. “Friends, how much do you trust me?” he asks the group. Then he informs them about the new plan: they’ll drive to Long Beach, give their friend a hug, and then drive back to Scottsdale.

Because they trust Sean, everyone’s on … that is, except for one lady. But she goes up to her hotel room, has a bitch fit and cries. And then she comes down a half hour later, ready to go.

Van service is ordered and things get more wonky: the van’s driver is a paraplegic.

But no worries. The paraplegic has all the safety features and controls and he’s an awesome driver. It’s just that at the age of 17, a terrible car accident left him paralyzed. Anyway, with not a moment to waste, they all pile into the van.

But … there’s another little problem: there are more passengers than car seats. Which means brittle-bones Sean can’t sit in his child-sized car seat. He’ll just have to sit in someone’s lap, it’s decided.

One of Sean’s female clients happily volunteers. A former prostitute, meth-addict, and alcoholic, they met nine years ago. He helped transform her life, and ever since then she’s been telling the world that Sean had saved her life. (Of course she’d be the one to volunteer …)

After the seven hour road trip, the group arrives in Long Beach and visits with their friend. He’s astonished to see them, of course. They hug him, wish him well, and his heart gets filled. (And what better way to go into heart surgery than with a full heart?)

It’s time to return to Scottsdale. They pile into the van … with Sean sitting in the former prostitute / meth-addict / alcoholic’s lap again.

Partway back, Sean unbuckles himself and turns around to talk to the three people in the back, one of whom is a soft-spoken, quiet Asian lady from Canada. He wants to make sure she and the other two people in the back are okay. (After all, they flew in for Sean’s coaching, not a road trip to California.) And as he’s facing the back of the van, a terrible, terrible noise assaults his senses. Did they just hit a metal garbage can in the middle of the highway?

But it sure as heck wasn’t a garbage can. Swerving into their lane out of the blue came a tractor trailer. Everyone saw it except for Sean, who happened to be facing the back in that moment.

I don’t have the exact details on the collision, but the tractor trailer struck the van, lodged it underneath somehow and dragged it along. At the moment of impact one of the guys in the back flew forward and struck the window; the other passengers got jerked around. So they were being dragged by this tractor trailer and it took  f o r e v e r  for it to finally stop, explained Sean.

As you can imagine, Sean’s mind was spinning. Is this what his intuition guided him into? Him and his mastermind speaking group? What in the world?

But wait. They’re all alive, waiting for first response to arrive. And when the first police officer arriving at the scene recognizes Sean, things get really wonky.

“Hey, I know you!” the first response officer says. “You’re Sean Stephenson! Dude! I can’t believe it’s you! I’m a big fan of yours and I follow you on Facebook.” He goes on and on about being a fan of Sean’s…

But then later, after evaluating the situation, the police officer explains that if Sean were in his child seat, he would have broken his ribs … and things could have been much worse. (Now, that’s not to say car seats don’t save many lives. They do. It’s just that this situation was you might say unique.)

Plus, if Sean had been facing forward at the time of the collision, he would have seen what was coming and tensed up, which would have made him more prone to injury. Since he was facing backward and unaware of the impending crash, his body was totally relaxed.

And because the former prostitute / meth addict / alcoholic was facing forward and was aware of what was happening, she held onto Sean and absorbed all the energy of the impact, so that Sean was left with not even a bruise.

And … after all these years of telling the world that Sean had saved her life, she now knows that she had saved his.

So she has karmic closure.

And the paraplegic … well, he just happened to save all of their lives. He had experienced a terrible accident in his youth so he knew what to do. He did not panic, and he kept the van steady during the collision and dragging. Because of him, they got away with minor injuries.

Which means the paraplegic has karmic closure, too.

And the mastermind speakers who went along with Sean’s new plan? What about them? Well, Sean explained to them, “Hey guys, you all just doubled your speaking fees!”

Which means the day’s work got done after all …

So …

What does this story mean for you?

Does it give you a sense of wonder … and new hope for humanity?

Does it show you, without a doubt, there’s more to life than what we currently know or believe?

Does it show that following your inner guidance can bring resolution to your life? Can bring blessings and karmic closure?

And does that motivate you to connect within … learn to trust your intuition, and gain the courage it takes to follow it?

If you’ve ever read my articles or my book, What Everyone Believed: A Memoir of Intuition and Awakening, you know I’ve had my share of crazy intuition stories.

You know I’ve been telling the world that connecting within and following our inner guidance (meaning, putting our higher self in the driver’s seat of our life) is THE KEY to transforming our lives.

(It’s obvious Sean’s higher self is in the driver’s seat of his life. And by the way, the same is true for Sir Richard Branson, I found out earlier this week. Richard Branson makes business deals without accountants or lawyers, but with his intuition.)

Well, I have some good news to share with you …

Not long ago, I found out that What Everyone Believed: A Memoir of Intuition and Awakening was recognized by publisher North Atlantic Books as one of “four notable spiritual awakening memoirs.” (Along with Eat Pray Love and The Happiness Project—which both sold millions of copies.)

Which tells me my book should be selling in the seven figures, too …

(Yes, the great shift in consciousness—the former name of my blog—is starting to take place …)

So if you don’t have a copy, you’ll want to order one today. Just click on “Spiritual Awakening Memoir” in the menu above and scroll down till you get to the Amazon button. Click the Amazon button and you’ll be taken to my book’s page on Amazon.

Reading it helps connect you to your intuition and increases your confidence so you follow through! So you experience new insights, favorable synchronicities, and the blessings you deserve!

As always, please help spread this message by sharing it on social media … and feel free to comment with any of your insights below.

Recently I came across a five minute video of Catherine Austin Fitts talking about her experience of speaking at a spiritual conference to which she was invited. For those not familiar with Catherine Fitts, she has served as managing director and member of the Board of Directors of a major Wall Street investment bank and as Assistant Secretary of Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the first Bush Administration. Ms. Fitts has been extensively interviewed on KPFA radio, an alternative media outlet, and is currently the publisher of The Solari Report. (Access the video here.)

I found what she shared in the video (uploaded May 30, 2013) about her experience interacting with participants at the spiritual conference extremely compelling, enough to make it the focus of at least a couple of articles on my blog. Ms. Fitts stated,

“I have been asked by a friend to speak to a group called Spiritual Frontiers Foundation. They have a conference once a year where they explore how they can help our society evolve spiritually. They’re very committed to a higher spiritual life. And I have been asked to give a speech called “How The Money Works In Organized Crime” which later became a very funny, a famous article, “Narco-Dollars for Beginners.”

So I’m in the middle of the speech talking about how the U.S. Congress had had hearings about allegations of narcotics trafficking by the intelligence agencies into South Central L.A. It’s called the so called “Dark Alliance Allegations.” At that time the Department of Justice had told a reporter who I was working with that the U.S. Economy launders five hundred billion to a trillion dollars a year in illegal money. That’s not just narcotics trafficking, it’s financial fraud, illegal gambling, everything. So I said to this wonderful group of spiritually evolved committed people, “What would happen if we stop being the global leader in money laundering?”

They said, “Well, you know, it would be a problem because that money would not go to the New York Stock Exchange. If we stopped, you know, the money would leave and go to Hong Kong or Zurich and we’d have trouble refinancing the government deficit.”

So I said, “Well, let’s pretend there’s a big red button up here on the lectern. And if you push that button, you can stop all hard narcotics trafficking in your county, your community, your neighborhood, your state, your country, tomorrow, thus offending the people who control not only a half a trillion to a trillion dollars a year of dirty money but the accumulated capital thereon. Who here will push the button?” And out of a hundred people dedicated to evolving our society spiritually only one would push the button.

I wouldn’t let him answer so I said to the other ninety-nine, “Why would you not push the button?” And they said, “We don’t want our IRA and 401(k) to go down in value. We don’t want our mutual funds to decline and we don’t want our government checks to stop because we don’t, you know, if you had trouble financing the government deficit, our government checks would stop or our taxes would go up.”

And so I said, “So you want the powers to continue to market drugs to your neighbor’s children to keep your taxes low and your 401(k) up.”

And they said, “Yes, that’s right.”

And what was interesting, the epiphany I had that day was that everyone was so afraid to face that, or talk about that, that we couldn’t get to a point where we could do what I call, “turn the red button green.” Because the right question is not, “How do we push the red button? The right question is how do we make money pushing the red button? How do we turn the red button green?” Because if you can make money pushing the red button, then you can push the red button. And no one feels safe enough or comfortable enough to talk about this.

It’s a little bit like…when you take methadone. Methadone or drugs makes your body weaker and weaker and weaker so it can’t possibly be profitable. It’s the same with an economy. The more the economy depends on criminal enterprise the more you’re making money at things that make you economically stupid. Okay? Because you’re doing, you’re getting good at criminal enterprise. You’re getting good at financial fraud instead of getting good at things that really are useful and have some real economic productivity to them. So you’re making your body politic weaker and weaker the more dependent you get on this money. So it can’t lead to anyplace good.

So there is a way to turn the red button green but it starts by being honest with each other. And one of the reasons I wrote the article “Coming Clean Beyond the Fiscal Cliff” is, we’ve got to face this. We’ve got to look at that if we’re going to turn the red button green. In that sense we have all been complicit because we’ve been letting the leadership draw us in a more and more perverted and criminal way and as we’ve done it we’ve made the body politic weaker and weaker and weaker because we’re all spending our time doing things that are making us stupider instead of spending our time making things that make us healthier and stronger.”

Ms. Fitts posed those questions to the audience in the spiritual conference during the Summer of 2000, and it is my hope that in the Summer of 2013 (13 years later, and after 9/11) that there are more than just one in 100 “spiritually conscious” people that are not only willing to talk about how to “turn the red button green,” but are actively pursuing ways in which to do so.

Is it actually true that for our economy to prosper, we need to turn a blind eye to the illegal drug trade, we need to hook the neighbors’ kids on drugs? No way! It’s like saying we need to keep selling land mines otherwise our way of life and our economy will collapse, we need to sell more weapons. The truth is, selling land mines is extremely profitable for the manufacturer of land mines and those directly involved in land mine sales, but certainly not for the average Joe Public.

It is my hope that 13 years later, more and more people are acknowledging the lies, more and more people are realizing that the fears that were keeping them aligned to the old systems and the old ways of being are based on false assumptions, propaganda and downright lies.

And it’s not just the illegal drug industry that is full of lies, many other industries are as well: the pharmaceutical industry, the cancer industry, the defense industry, the energy industry, the processed food industry, among many, many others.

It is my assertion that “spirituality” is about becoming socially and spiritually aware, becoming conscious to the lies we bought into, and taking the steps necessary to fulfill our higher purpose. In fact, fulfilling our higher purpose is how we “turn the red button green.” Everything else is just fluff. (Find my latest article on fulfilling your higher purpose here.)

No matter what happens around you it is not the end of the world, it is just a transition and each one of us has a unique contribution to creating a world that works for everyone, a “Golden Age.” Getting that message out and sharing helpful real-life experiences and insights via my books and my blog has been my main focus for the last several years, and it seems to have made some difference. Thirteen years ago, when Ms. Fitts was speaking at that spiritual conference, the possibility of turning the red button green was not even in the conversation, not even on the radar, but now it is. And that is indeed progress.

My last post, “The Bigger Picture And Divine Plan – It’s Not What You Think It Is,” which is about the importance of fulfilling your higher purpose as well as the idea that you won’t consciously know what your individual, specific higher purpose is (and you certainly won’t be able to understand the bigger picture)–not until you have made it a practice of following through with your inner guidance daily and then seeing what happens over a period of time–generated a few comments from people thanking me for the reminder for them to make it a practice of meditating daily and listening to their higher guidance. (Whew! That was a lot to cover in one sentence!)

My friend Joshua Tilghman, who is the force behind The Spirit of the Scripture blog, wrote,

“Good post, Christine. I just wanted to add that the process can be sped up a little by living in the NOW and daily meditation.”

Another person shared that she wishes she could make daily meditation a habit, instead of doing it once or a couple times a month.

I agree that daily meditation is the place to begin. However, it is worth examining what your intention behind your daily meditation is. Is your intention behind meditation about receiving higher guidance for your daily life that you will then follow? Or is it because meditation is part of our pop culture now and a “spiritual” thing to do? Or is your intention something else altogether?

Most people have to learn to meditate, they have to learn to focus on hearing that inner guidance, that still, small voice within. Daily meditation (a deliberate and intentional connecting with your higher self / higher guidance) is often needed in order to overcome the very strong inertia and habit of ignoring our inner guidance. (I know this because before I made a conscious commitment over a decade ago to meditate and then follow through with my inner guidance consistently I ignored much of it. And then I noticed that what often happened is that I would feel regret or remorse that I had ignored it; I would regret not having followed through with my intuition in the moment, regret having ignored it or put it off due to simple procrastination or the habit of “remaining small.” And the reason I regretted it is that I realized I had lost some kind of an opportunity that would have given me and those around me joy, or else I got myself into some sort of trouble that made my life more complicated.)

So what did I do to overcome that powerful inertia? Besides making it a practice of meditating 10 to 15 minutes right before I went to sleep at night and right after I awakened (I did the heart and soul meditation described in a post I wrote early on in this blog), several times a day I stopped what I was doing (just for about 30 seconds to a minute) and focused on what I was feeling in my “sacred space” at the moment. What was my heart feeling? Was I feeling or sensing anything different in the center of my chest? Was there any guidance for me to follow at the moment? I had already by then made the commitment to follow through with my inner guidance and now was “checking in” with my higher self, learning to pay attention to subtle feelings, learning to anticipate guidance so that when it came, this time I’d be “on it,” this time I’d follow through. There would be no regrets.

Meditation does not have to be hard, you don’t need to be a “pro” at it, and you don’t need to do it the “right” way, i.e. sitting Indian style with fingers in the right place. It’s not about that at all, I discovered. I tried it the “traditional” way years before and it didn’t work for me and then I “meditated” in bed lying down, right before I fell asleep at night and a little when I woke up. That (and the strong desire to hear and follow through with my higher guidance) was all I needed to finally get things rolling, meaning, experiencing favorable, sometimes amazing synchronicities, new insights, new inspired actions, new connections, plenty of personal growth, as well as feelings of joy and expansion, regularly. In other words, you are being the change you want to see in the world. (Isn’t this why we meditate?)

When you hear the inner voice and you DON’T follow through, well that’s not helping you go forward at all, you’re just remaining stuck in the same old place.

Regarding “Living in the Now,” being connected to that divine part of you and following through with your guidance NOW (promptly, in the moment) is what “Living in the Now” is about. It’s about not worrying about the future because you know that by taking care of what there’s to take care of today you’re transforming your future and you’re being the change you want to see in the world.

What will you do today that will help you be the change you want to see in the world? Don’t put it off any longer!

In my blog posts I keep coming back to the importance of fulfilling one’s higher purpose (one’s soul mission and unique contribution) as a prerequisite for understanding the bigger picture of humanity’s journey on this planet. That’s because I keep coming across other blog posts and articles that imply that Disclosure and information about the extent of control the “powers that be” have had on this planet is the Bigger Picture. The belief is that recorded history and hidden documents and other hidden information accurately portray the Divine Plan / the Bigger Picture and spreading this knowledge is how we will finally transform our world. But this view is extremely short-sighted and couldn’t be further from the truth.

No amount of reading or absorbing of information, no matter how seemingly monumental or how revealing, will help you understand the bigger picture of your life (and consequently, the bigger picture of our collective journey here on this planet) if you personally do not apply what you’ve been reading and learning during this great shift in consciousness towards actually fulfilling your own higher purpose.

You do not fulfill your higher purpose or understand the bigger picture by having access to the vast assemblage of hidden or classified information about humanity’s history. You do not have to have special security clearance or spend years studying this information to know what the heck is going on. Viewing hours and hours of “re-education material” on the true history of the world on your television or computer screen will not finally help you understand the Divine Plan / Bigger Picture. Rather, you will discover what the heck is going on on a deeper, visceral, and experiential level when you’re well on your way to fulfilling your soul’s higher purpose.

So how do you discover your higher purpose? How do you learn what that is? I maintain that you do not know what your higher purpose is, and neither does anyone else know what your higher purpose is, no matter how psychic they are. Do you really think that you know what your higher purpose is?

Your ego mind (normal consciousness mind / socially conditioned mind / only-10%-of-the-brain accessing mind) does not know what your higher purpose is. How can it? Only your soul / higher self knows what your higher purpose is, and your conscious mind doesn’t have access to that, at least not all at once. Rather, the way it works is like this: you access your higher purpose one little teeny baby step at a time, by following through with your inner guidance and paying attention to what happens as a result. (Your higher self will not reveal your higher purpose if you’re not ready to follow through, if you haven’t cultivated a deeper relationship with the Divine such that you trust the guidance you’re receiving, which means following through with it promptly and consistently.) So what happens when you follow your guidance one time, what will you have then? You will have one little baby clue, one little insight.

When you have aligned your life with your deepest being and followed through with that guidance promptly and consistently for weeks and months on end, what happens is that the little clues, synchronicities and insights you have experienced begin to come together in such a way that you now have a better idea of what your higher purpose may be. You feel as though the puzzles pieces are coming together. You’re experiencing new insights almost daily. You have some amazing results and you feel “in tune” with your higher self. During this time, you also notice that some of your beliefs have changed and that your mind feels like it’s being “rewired.” In fact your mind has felt confused at times and sometimes you didn’t know how much more of this you could take but you chose to keep going anyway because it’s actually been exciting and you’ve been learning to trust your higher self and the Divine Plan. (And you’ve stopped looking to the night sky or other places for “proof” or motivation to go on.)

So how do I know this? It’s not because someone told me this or because it was channeled. It’s what I actually experienced when I made a commitment to reconnect to my higher self and follow through with my inner guidance and it’s what I came to understand over months and years of following my inner guidance. My book, What Everyone Believed: A Memoir of Intuition and Awakening, is an account of my experiences, many of which were recorded pretty much as they happened. In fact, I was asked by “higher beings” to keep track of things as they happened, so that my account of the reconnecting process would be more accurate than if I had written it months or years after the fact.

Understanding the bigger picture is not about adding more information to your repertoire; rather, when you are well on your way to fulfilling your higher purpose (which will be very exciting and rewarding for you and result in long-term happiness and satisfaction) you will finally understand the bigger picture on the deepest level. Then and only then will you be able to appreciate fully what the “powers that be” have done in service to you, to this planet, and indeed to the Universe. (And only then will the Golden Age come about.)

It’s not special information that has the power to transform our world. It’s you who have the power to transform your world, and this–when added to the millions of others who are also transforming their world–will result in the transformation of the world.
